I love the crushed pearl inlays, but I don't particularly like the checkered bindings over the normal plain ones. Although they ARE a rather unique feature and thus make the player stand out, I find them quite silly... Reminds me of a circus, and I don't know why... (funny associations going on in my head).

Not a fan of Orange.

The purple 650 was kind of cool. I wonder if we ever see a return of the cloverfield green. You US americans would call it cadillac green if I remind correctly.

I like the orange 650, but would prefer a slightly warmer, transparent orange with the wood shining through.

If I could design my own RIC I would probably try something in the direction of the Susanna Hoffs model. The body shape of a 325/350 with a Bigsby B5, but a wider full-scale 650C style neck without bindings. This guitar could be lacquered in a greenburst finish which could be called "appleglo." And I would equip it with a humbucker in the neck position and a 12k toaster at the bridge. Sounds like an almost perfect combination of the RICs I already own ;-) ...

Traditinoal 80th wedding annivseray gift if "oak" so, there is a good starting point. Oak would probably sound horrible as an instrument material, so just a thin veneer 'cap'?

I'd add brass bridge, The 'R' tailpiece in brass, with only the 'R' itself highlighted in chrome and the pickguards still white plastic, but surrounded with a thin binding of.... brass.

The 650 didn't exactly take the world by storm so I doubt it'd be used as a commemorative guitar.
I'm not keen on the colours either, looks like something you might use on one of those naff guitar computer games. ;)

How about Rick using Koa? It looks amazing on those Taylor acoustic guitars.

I can see a 360WB in Koa with chequered binding, crushed pearl inlays and pick guards, toasters, trapeze tailpiece, chequered headstock binding, crushed pearl TRC, mmmmmmm.....

I don't see anything wrong with imagining Rickenbackers in non-traditional or not-already-used finishes. I don't particularly like that exact shade of purple, but I like purple guitars sometimes (I've owned two very different-colored, but both technically purple, PRSs - still got one which is possibly my favorite guitar ever). The orange looks a bit too crude somehow, but I also liked the PRS Corvette model (metallic orange with a 'competition' stripe), so maybe metallic would work! The Atlantis was always one of my favorite-looking Ricks.

Color taste is a very personal thing. My least favorite RIC color by far is AFG, closely followed by ordinary FG (unless it's at the very pink end of the scale with no yellow in it at all), and my least favorite finish - beating even those - is the natural walnut with gold hardware, which I know a lot of folks love... so there you go!


Not at all, it sounds quite good. Some Japanese guitars of the early to mid 80s used it if I remember.

Starting to be a common reaction of yours to my posts! I figure if they are just going to be furniture guitars, why not go the wohle hog and give it a oak-y gentlemans's club theme.

I agree, for both the orange and purple, transparent showing the wood grain would be preferable. That goes a little beyond my Photoshop capabilities though (ha ha).
