Regarding the rickenbacker-homepage in case of buying a new nameplate:
"Customers must return at least half of any nameplate/"R" Tailpiece in order to purchase a new one."
Does it mean, if somebody (happened severall times on E-bay Germany) sells a "new" (according to the seller) nameplate, he injures a law?
(Mostly it goes out for 120 $!)

No, it wouldn't be illegal.

The nameplate policy has been in effect since roughly.... 1999 or so. Before that, anyone could buy a nameplate, which is why there are probably a lot floating around on ebay. I remember from my customer service days, that people would buy nameplates/pickguards in all 3 of the colors that we had at the time, sot that they could swap them out depending on how their mood struck them.

Now, there have been cases of illicit reproduction nameplates, which absolutely are illegal to buy/sell.

It's too bad that some people went and abused the system and ruined the fun for the rest of us. It would be so cool to be like "Hmm, well, I had a black name plate for last week's gig, I think I'll use the white one this week."

What he said. My absolutely gen-u-wine 79 4001 is missing the nameplate, and I'd love to be able to replace it.

We watch these pretty carefully and I'd say at least one a week comes up on eBay and I daresay that will continue for quite awhile as long as people know their nameplate is worth more on eBay than their copy guitar.

Any genuine nameplate is perfectly okay to sell. Counterfeit plates offered for sale, on the other hand, are referred to the appropriate authorities for prosecution.
