Does anyone has an expiriance comparing these two models:
360/12c64 and curent 360/12 Vintage Picups????

How are they different, which one do you prefer???

First, you can compare them in the models tab above, by going to it and dragging down until you hit compare. But I'll do my best here, even though some things will be missed.

The c64 is a reissue of the 12 string that George Harrison played. It's a double bound body that has sharper edges on the front and back, like the 330. The neck has 21 frets which is generally more desirable. The neck also has the vintage style inlays that span the entire neck width. The c64 has the trapeze tailpiece. Also, the c64 has dual mono output.

The 360/12 VP will have the "newer" body style that has the rounded top, with binding only on the back. The neck has a more modern 24 frets for 2 full octaves. The inlays on the neck are set in and do not span the width. The output of the guitar is mono or stereo.

Playability is phenomenal on both, although I lean toward the c64. There is a big price difference too, which you can learn about by going to the service tab above and scrolling to the US Price List.

I know the cosmetic differences, I know that c64 is Harrison's replica from AHDN... modern 360/12 with vintage picups is more like a later, 1965 rickenbacker that Harrison used...
The price difference is truelly bigg, that's what made me thinking about geting a modern 360 with toasters instead of a more disaerable c64...


I would like to hear some coments on the sound, playability, neck feel and other stuff....

I think that you'll find that these guitars are extremely easy to play, even as 12 strings. Some people would have it that the necks are too narrow for 12 strings, I love the feel of the neck on mine and I have found that the neck only makes me work harder as a player to be accurate. The tone is amazing. Listen to any of the old Beatles/Byrds recordings for that classic jangle/chime of these instruments. You can also coax a very nice "acoustic" tone from them in the neck pickup position. They also sound great unplugged. Sorry for sounding like a salesman, but there really isn't anything bad that I could say about these guitars in my opinion.

if it were me, i would get the c63 (c64 is the 325, v64 was a vintage reissue 360 before the c series). youre going to wait a while for it so you will have time to save up the extra money.

The neck radius is the biggest difference you'll feel in comparing a 60's 12 string to a modern one.

So what is the radius difference between them?? Which is more comfortable to play???

360/12c63 is $1989
360/12 VP is $1369

And I think I'll have to wait for ages to get one, 'cause you know why....

But I think it looks better, the reason why I wanted to go modern one with vintage pickups is because of the price and the fact that I'll wait much less...

I think the modern 360, with its rounded front edges, is a little more comfortable to play and the newer ones have slightly wider string spacing at the nut; I believe the vintage models use the original spacing. The vintage model also has a 7.25" fretboard radius, which is fairly curved and good for barred chords, while the new model has a more modern 10" radius which makes bending and lead playing somewhat easier.

The C model does look better - more "classic" Rick - but you have to decide if the extra $600 and the wait is worth it to you.

In my case, I had no desire to imitate Harrison, and I have very little patience, so I bought an in-stock 360/12 VP from North Coast and I'm very pleased with it.

I have just done this comparison. I am an un-gifted amateur. However, I do play a couple of Byrds riffs, as I have an acoustic 12 string. I was very taken with second hand Harrison, and was totally prepared to buy it. I was looking at it for probably 2 - 3 Weeks. However, when I gave it a test run, I did have issues. Even though I have small hands, the neck was very narrow for me. Tuning appeared very unstable - perhaps due to the trapeze being somewhat less secure than the R tailpiece.

I found a 1998 360/12 VP Fireglow virtually untouched on e-bay in the city in which I live. although somewhat less expensive, this was not a consideration, as I had just sold a classic car at a very good price. To me, it was a much nicer guitar - held its tune, beautiful neck and action (how could 21 frets be better than 24??), comfortable edges and $400 cheaper. It now resides at my home. The issue I have is that I do not think that it will retain its value to the same extent. However, it is a stunning guitar, and sounds fantastic to my untrained ear!! As I was testing them on different amps, I cant really comment on the differing sounds. I assume the different spacing of the pickups would have some effect.

Not sure if it was previously mentioned that the C63 is crossed-braced, whereas the standard 360 NS is the carved top, without x-brace ?

Some say that the pointed horns bodies of 330 and Double Bounds have different body resonance and tone, compared with the rounded top NS bodies..... that the inside cube of the semi hollow space is a little bigger on the pointed horn models thereby giving it different acoustic tone.

And did anyone mention that there is a school of thought that Double Bounds just look cooler than the rounded NS bodies !
