Hi everyone, im was wondering if somebody could chime in with some suggestion for a recording software for my laptop. I need something that have like 4 tracks + but no need for 20. It's only for playing around with my rickenbackers. I plan to record the guitars with a mic in front of the vox ac30 not with direct injection. I will probably need an adaptor to connect the mic to my laptop?? The computer is a hp pavilion dv6 with an intel i5 core and windows7 in it. Im beginning my research so all idea are welcome. :D

I like Audacity. I'm not really terribly fluent in using it for recording, mastering and such, but it has the advantage of being free...

Thx cjj, do you have a suggestion for a good usb mic? I presume thats all i will need to capture the sound of the amp. Do i plug it directly into the usb port of my laptop and thats it ?

The only USB mic's I've got are for headsets and I've not tried to record any vocals (believe me, NOBODY wants to hear MY vocals  ).

But, if you have a line in (or mic) jack on your laptop (usually right next to the headphone jack) you can probably use a standard mic on that. Well, not an XLR type unless you have an adapter...

I think you'd be better off getting an usb I/O box like the ones made by M-Audio and direct connecting your Rick rather than mic'ing it into the laptop.

Sounds interesting, I'll have to check those out. So far, I've only used one of my SansAmps and went from the line out direct to the mic in jack. Seemed to work OK...

Any model number suggestion Rickenbrother, i looked at it but don't really know what i really need. Can we achieve better sound quality with those boxes than the mic in front of amp set up?

Some thing like the M-Audio Fast Track would be a good unit. There are less expensive devices available, but I always hear complaints about people either not getting them to work well or not at all.

Ok i looked at the fast track pro which is a bit better and loved it. 8-) Any suggest for a software (is pro tools mp 9 a good one) :?: , and a good mic to mic my vox ac30. Since the pro version have 2 mic/guitar inputs, ill be able to use a good quality mic with normal connection not a usb one. :P

I've been using Sonar 8. I like it. Not getting the best use out of it, because it's really time for me to upgrade my desktop computer. It's getting old and slow with all the programs on it, even after completely wiping out the hard drive and starting over. But I'm not sure if I'm going to get another desktop or a very good new laptop. Seems desktop computers might be losing their popularity. So let us know how that Fast Track Pro works out. I might be going that way also.
