In reference to above link....the Ric sounds horrible. Is that a non stock pup in the neck position? Also, possibly flats on the bass? It sounds like mud. The rest of the concert he used a different bass (brand) which had round wounds...a clear difference could be heard.

The overall sound on that Utube is really dull and lifeless.

I wouldn't be too quick to blame any gear: drums, guitar, bass or other.

That is just a clip from the HD Concert that I watched earlier in the day. I assure you, the concert was crystal clear until that bass was used for only the one song. That's why I am so surprised.
