Hi all - my first time so treat me gently!

After months and months of scouring the UK I've just found a left handed 360/12 in Mapleglo (I wanted a Jetglo, but as the guy says "you're left handed - you get what your given"!)- the store says it's a brand new one and charging £1750 UKP.
However, the Rickenbacker name plate doesn't seem to match with the other Ricks he has in the store. The one I am about to buy is smooth, as in the letters are printed on rather than being raised and also some of the white paint around the screws is broken and cracked. All the others he has in stock have raised lettering.
Are some just like this? Am I just being overly paranoid about parting with my cash and afraid of being ripped off?? Is it possible to buy/swap the name plate for an undmaged one from RIC??

I appriciate any help that you can give me guys and ladies.. many thanks

It sounds suspicious to me!

What is the serial number (engraved on the jackplate)?

What does the headstock look like? RIC changed this just over a year ago to a fully slotted design where the slots for the second set of strings now go all the way through.

My (Sept) 2005 360/12 has raised letters on the truss rod cover and a fully slotted headstock.

Just been back to the store and had a look at the serial number. The guy was a bit annoyed I was questioning him! It's 01 17609. Checked all the other Rick's again and sure enough they all have raised lettering.

Then according to the serial number decoder (see the "Service" tab above)...

"Your guitar was manufactured in week number 17 of the year 2001".

Ric goes to great lengths to protect their designs and replacement truss rod covers are only available if you send in the damaged original. Consequently there is a sizable market for originals - they show up on Ebay and sell for over $100. I wonder if someone took the original off this guitar and replaced it with something "close".

Check southpawguitars website to see what a left hand Ric should look like.

Could this be a vintage TRC as opposed to the newer raised letter ones?

Have a look at the difference on the RIC website between the TRC on the vintage models. Is it like this?

Sounds to me like a vintage nameplate. I'm not %100 sure, but I believe that all lefty models have vintage nameplates.

I've always preferred the look of the vintage name plate. I know the TRC replacement topic has been well covered on this forum, but can a current name plate be swapped for a vintage style?

That's a relief then if you think that it's a vintage plate! I'll go back to the store and appologise profusely!

The headstock, by the way Kevin, looks like the older version than the one you have described.

How would I go about getting a replacement plate though as this one shows damage? Is there a wait as long as there is for a guitar? Anything else I should look out for before purchase??

Sorry about all these questions.... I just want my whole Rickenbacker experience to be a good one - it's the first time I've been able to afford one and the wait and search has been killing me!!!

Unfortunately, as a result of the increasing number of counterfeit Rickenbackers entering the market, we have instated a policy requiring the return of Rickenbacker nameplates (Damaged or not) before we can sell a replacement.

Having said that, if you do own a nameplate (or even part of a broken one), and would like to exchange it in order to purchase a new one, please let us know, and we will send you the necessary information.
