Howdy,

I just completed recording my first CD. On the CD, there are eight covers. How would I obtain the Mechanical Copyright for these songs. I know that there is the Harry Fox Agency as well as Limelight. I would like to know if there are any others. I would like to accomplish this the least expensive and most effective way. Please help. Thanks.

Steve

P.S. All but two of the tracks were recorded with my 730L12. One of the exceptions was recorded with my 330.

I recorded a major-label solo guitar collection that included several covers. All you need to do is notify the publishers. You may also request a cut rate from them and sometimes they are amenable.

I believe your record company has required all necessesary permissions before recording anything. Without these it can be expensive because a rerecording of a tune without permission can charged by the composer/writer with whatever he/she wants to charge. On the label it must be printed that all copyrights are cleared.

Well that's at least how copyright law works her in DK - and these types of laws are almost identical in most countries.
