I've suffered from sweaty hands corroding my guitar strings ever since I've started playing and I'm getting really fed up with it..The palms of my hands naturally sweat a lot but they must also sweat acid or something because when I put new strings on, within a couple of weeks they've gone----dead and completely flat sounding...I've had people look at my guitar strings within 2 weeks of them being new and told me that their strings wouldn't look and sound that bad after 2 years!
Is there anything I can do??....I always use my Ric cloth to wipe the strings after use..I've tried the Elixir anti-rust strings (not on the Ric) with only marginally better results (didn't like the sound or feel of them though).
Is there any sort of chalk powder that you can use, a bit like the stuff weightlifters use, that won't damage the strings or the fretboard?.........Are there any anti-rust strings that sound good on the Ric?
I'm hoping, sometime in the future to get a 660/12 along with my 330/6 but thinking about the inconvenience and cost of constantly having to change a twelve string is putting me off.

I use Elixers on my Ric; they sound really good - Get the Polyweb for extra bright tone.

There's also a certain amount of chemical salt in sweat,which can cause this rapid corrosion of the metal strings.There should be an absorbent powder for this.Good luck.

Jeff Beck applies some kind of powder to his hands, prior to every gig. I've seen it on videos and also live in concert. Worth checking it out?

Thanks.........I'm not a fan of the Elixir but having said that I've only played with the acoustic 12's so the electric 10's could be the way to go....I will give them them a try with the Ric.

Actually, most people tend to be in the reverse position, where they enjoy the acoustic strings more. Did you play the Nanoweb or Polyweb? Nanoweb has less coating, and sounds jazzier, but I don't like them. The Polywebs are where the tone is at. They're bright on any guitar, and last forever.

I don't like Elixirs either. If you dislike them for acoustic guitars, you will not like them on your bass either.

I would suggest Blue Steels or Rotos and use Fast Fret after you play EVERY TIME.
