It's handy, and Rickenbacker certainly deserves credit for pushing the envelope, but i'd rather just have a 12 and a 6. Even with the octave strings lowered, you're still fretting all 12 strings. It dosen't affect playability it just changes the sound.

I played one once. Tried it in both configurations: 12-string, and as a 6-string with the comb locking down the octave strings. Great instrument. It just wasn't for me
