"about REM: out of time might be "commercial" but is surely a masterpiece, I wish there were commercial records with that quality around nowadays...

ps new adventures in hi fi is their best album ever imho."

Well, Out of Time is in my top three REM albums, and so is New Adventures.

Hi,
Paul here, moderator. I noticed some of you are having trouble with encoding you tube videos.

Here's a whole you tube link:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mppg4Jo1 ... re=related

To embed, click on the "you tube" button above your posting window. You tube code brakets will appear in your posting window:

Tthen copy and paste just the section of the yout tube code as follows (anything between = and =, or = and & symbols:

mppg4Jo1Hr4

between the you tube brackets.

The result is:

I fixed a couple of preceding posts posts. If it's still not making sense you can "quote" a post that has a properly emnbedded video to view the section of code the poster pasted between the brackets, for more examples how it's done. :)

Cheers,

Paul

nice stuff indeed. ;)

if we're slipping into the shoegazing movement to mention ride and chapterhouse is a must! ;)

definitely not the typical rickenbacker tone, but worth a peek!

Ohhh shoegaze - good stuff :)
I still like Ride a lot, but I had never heard of chapterhouse, so thanks for the link.
Early Primal Scream features a 360/12:

Radiohead used a Rickenbacker quite often. Here is one of my favourite songs by them (No Surprises):

Paul

thank you very much, now it's clear. ;)

@Monster: VERY nice choices indeed!

Radiohead are one of my favorite bands ever and talking about Primal Scream, the whole Sonic Flower Groove album should be mentioned as a must for every Rickenbacker lover!

Even if Gillespie himself denied the paternity of their 80's stuff somehow (in their greatest "dirty hits" every song is taken from screamadelica on), with this record they've probably started that movement that later other people would call the "british invasion" (stone roses etc.)...

Sonic Flower Groove - yes... what a remarkable album!
Imagine my surprise when I bought it; I knew Primal Scream from Screamadelica onwards!

Midnight Oil has used Rickenbackers to good effect from time to time:
e.g. Blue sky mine has a tasteful Rickenbacker countermelody in the 'who's gonna save me' bit:

I couldn't find it live with the 12-string.

Early 1980's stuff from The Church has some attractive guitar:

From NZ: Dave Kilgour both solo and in The Clean used a blue 330 fairly often. Not many live vids of this though:

Not to everyone's tastes, but one of my favourite bands from NZ is Bailterspace. Alistair P used a 330 or 360 6 or 12 fairly often. I saw them live a couple of times and my sister's band played support act for them once :D They made an incredible sound for 3 people, running very loud to get 'the ring in the zone' (Alistair P's words) from his Rickenbackers and using various tunings.
Not that much on youtube, but some on myspace:
Bailterspace - X

Bailterspace - Shadow (live)

although bailterspace can be not my usual cup of tea, I do have to improve my knowledge of the australian/new zealandian scene! ;)

I keep it up with the cure as both bamonte and gallup are rickenbacker estimators:

I guess Bailterspace veer towards industrial at times, so fair enough. Quite a few NZ bands used Rickenbackers in the 1980s & 90s. I'm pretty sure that the Straightjacket Fits used one.
re: The Cure - I hadn't registered that they had used them. Thanks for the heads up.

Older stuff, eh?... Not quite as jangly... CCR:
