Hi, all:

I have a former student who owns a music shop here in Connecticut. He can give me a great price on any FENDER amp. So, I'm looking for advice. I love to play that 1960s sound with my Roger McGuinn 370-12 guitar.

I love that Beatles and Byrds sound! Any suggestions? Does any individual model really stand out?

I'd go with the '65 Twin Reverb.All-tube,2-12s,100 Watts,more than enough for most venues.I also believe it was the amp Roger McGuinn used in the '60s.(It's actually a '65 reissue model in Fenders' current lineup).

I recall McGuinn playing through a Dual Showman when I saw the Byrds in the mid-60's. I recall also seeing him play at various times through a Twin Reverb. I personally can get all the 60s jangle I want with my 370/12 or 360/6 going through my old Deluxe Reverb.

The great thing about all Fender amps, expensive or budget, is that they have a great clean sound.

My Hot Rod Deluxe nails it, for me, with some Compression.

This question also depends on if your playing for home enjoyment or in a live band scenario.The Twin Reverb might be too much of a beast (size/weight),and pricewise for some.For a smaller,less-expensive amp,the Deluxe Blues reissue and Hot Rods are nice.

The Hot Rods are pretty loud. They are affordable, though.

My vote is for the Twin. Lovely amp.

I'm in agreement on that call. Ok they are cumbersome to move around, but sound wise, especially in the clean department, they come up trumps!
I play through an old fender '71 non master vol silver- face that has been modded, it has two new Jensen blackbirds 12'' installed, it sounds so lush and it's crystal clear. If the new 65 twin sounds anything like that then it would be a good amp for a Ric! Personally, I think the Ric's, and the F' twin makes very good marriage The jangle from the Ric's gets enhanced by the clarity and presence of the twin. I hardly ever move my twin anymore, I gig with smaller amps, but the twin sounds the best by a long shot, my days of lugging the twin are over, I forget what it weighs, but I try not to move anything over 15 to 20 kgs, without assistance, unless it's an emergency. I lean heavily to starboard even carrying the 381 in it's massive case.

Yes--I used to lug around those 60 lb. amps, too. But, my friends tell me that they are not needed. Apparently, most people now just "mike" up a smaller amp!

Your friends have given you good advice, Yes they sound fantastic but they are just too heavy. I suppose if you talked to old roadies, they will tell you they have herniated discs '' it was the Twin that did it'', you would have to believe them!
I leave the twin parked at home, I dare not think about moving it on my own, yes smaller amps get miked up, so smaller amps are the way to go.
