I remember there was a topic about the main differences about uk made and china made voxes with different opinions...basically the most important things are the speakers and the transformers.

I mean, it's still a good amp, but with those mods on you could hear the difference easily.

I have an AC30 and, yeah, those interactive EQs are a pain. For a looooong while I just could not get anything I liked from my Ric and Gretsch through my VOX. Then I just maxed both the bass and treble all the way - that completely cuts the mids - and I get a suitable tone.

I also bought an EQ pedal and that really does the trick, but you want the truth that may not be popular here? My Ric/VOX amp combination is no way as good as my Ric/Fender amp combination. I know it is sacreligious to speak ill of the venerated Ric/VOX combo, but for me my Fender amp provides the best Ric sound.

Tommy........what fender amp do you use. I'm looking for a top, clean sounding amp with my Ric and I'm not too sure about the Vox amps either.

While I personally like the AC15, AC30 and JC-120 sound combination with a Rickenbacker, Paul Kantner of the Jefferson Starship absolutely agrees with you. He swears by a Blackface.

I like the Vox/Ric sound, but these days Vox's are somewhat hit and miss. I've heard some that sound great, and some that are lackluster.

With Fenders, I have yet to hear a bad clean sound. They're pretty consistent, even with their lower end practice amps.

I have a Fender Princeton Chorus. They don't make those any longer, but as others have pointed out go with any Fender amp and you and your Ric will be very happy. The cleans from a Fender amp have a warmth and body to them that I feel the VOX cleans do not.

However, the ultimate amp for the Ric may just be the Roland Jazz Chorus that John Hall mentioned. I played my Ric 12 through a friend's Jazz Chorus once and it really was pretty darn great. If you are looking to buy a top, clean sounding amp for your Ric, then you really should try out the Jazz Chorus. You can't go wrong at all with either a Fender or the Jazz Chorus. I'd look in those directions.

Personally, I find the Jazz Chorus sound WAY too clean and pretty. And 80s. ESPECIALLY with a Rickenbacker. I like at least a bit of tube grit, even with clean sounds. As a teenager in the 80s, the ultimate Rick sound for me was Mitch Easter in Let's Active. I know he was using a Twin when I saw him when that first record came out.

My 360 -12 sounds phenomenal through my '68 Super Reverb. I find it to be a very versatile amp.

On my AC15 Heritage, using the Top Boost channel, I have volume at around 4, treble around 7, bass around 4, and no top cut. I also like to warm my amps up for around 30-40 minutes before I use them. Warm amps sound better than cold ones, in my experience.

My Rics also sound splendid through my old Fender Deluxe Reverb. I think it was fate that created the iconic Ric 12 and the iconic Blackface Fender at roughly the same time, because they indeed are a marriage made in heaven.
