Hi, I am new to this forum so hello to all.
I have included a picture of my ric below, and hoping some one can tell me a bit about it.
I have owned it for just over 20 years now, have only ever played it, and only now am interested in its model and history.
I believe it is a 1975 (based on the serial numbers) model 4000, when I bought it, it had a horible novice type whole dug into it under scratch plate where I believe the previous owner was trying to add another pickup but didn't, had it repaired by a profesional repairer along with having the fret board resized and new frets added.
It had no mute nor hand rest over the pickup. Can someone tell me which hand rest would have gone with this model.
Any info available will be appreciated, as I can't even find a photo on the internet of a similar looking ric, so have no idea where to begin.

Welcome to the forum.It's definitely a Model 4000 with the original pickup cover removed.I believe the hand or thumb rests were discontinued after the '60s.It's a pretty unusual model,discontinued in the '80s,and far overshadowed by the 4001.

If I'm not mistaken, this era of 4000 would be set-neck rather than neck-through, correct?

The 4000 basses were also neck-thru constructed,just made with the one horseshoe or hi-gain bridge pickup.

Aren't all Rics made with neck-thru construction? As in, the neck is in the body?

Some Rick 4001 "S" bass models were made with a "set" neck construction instead of neck-through-body. Not sure on the numbers or what year(s). My favorite "S" model 4001 bass of Rickenbrother's is a set-neck 4001 "S."

The neck runs all the way through the body with body "wings" attached to the sides. Set-Neck (aka semi-hollow) = 300 Series, V Series, C Series guitars. The neck has a tenon, or "tongue," that is set into a slot hollowed out in the body.
