http://www.mimf.com/nutcomp/He does round off the math. In a "correct" mathematical placement of 2^1/12, the better approximation is 1.0495631, and round the final numbers to the nearest thousandth. Otherwise you get "creep" and are off a few thou by the time you reach the end of the fretboard.
Again, all strings have different cores and wraps. So when you compensate a nut, it has to be for a specific brand, model and gauge of string. Change, and you risk having to change the compensation.
