He does round off the math. In a "correct" mathematical placement of 2^1/12, the better approximation is 1.0495631, and round the final numbers to the nearest thousandth. Otherwise you get "creep" and are off a few thou by the time you reach the end of the fretboard.

Again, all strings have different cores and wraps. So when you compensate a nut, it has to be for a specific brand, model and gauge of string. Change, and you risk having to change the compensation.

I actually think that istalling a Buzz feiten system is a bit of over reacting. A pro set up - which means correct placement of the nut, correct distance from the strings to the fingerboard (very important) next to the nut and - of course - correct adjustent of the intonation at the bridge will bring any quality guitar so much in tune that most people can't hear anything wrong. A Rickenbacker - and most quality guitars as well - set up like that won't need Buzz Feiten.
