I saw an older post regarding Blueboy finish subtly fading (actually "yellowing" would be more accurate) and various opinions as to what causes this.
I just purchased (conditionally) a 2004 case-queen 620 VP in Blueboy finish which has only been out of its case for pictures, but nonetheless shows subtle "yellowing" to the finish all over, most pronounced on the heel and the back edge of the 600 series "wave." So much for the "sunlight exposure" theory... I think my guitar's experience adds credence to the alternative theory that it's a plush case interior/guitar finish interaction which causes the change, not ultraviolet exposure.
I've long loved Fender's surf green finish, and that's pretty much what I've got with this guitar, so that's cool. But, I'm also wanting a bit more input about the posts which asserted that rubbing the finish down with "a soft, non-abrasive cloth" would actually remove the subtle yellowing. That sounds like a lot of work to me, possibly swirl-marking the finish, also requiring removal of all the plastic, etc. to do a thorough job.
Any meaningful input would be appreciated...

Most guitarists I know embrace aging of the instrument. If it works, don't fix it, right?

It would be a shame if the blue does yellow or fade, it has always been one of my favorite finishes. Perhaps the reason we see the new colors released as standard years after they are introduced is that RIC needs to know how they hold up and then make adjustments to the chemicals for stability! Heck, the next new color may be "Old Blue"!

I can't imagine how a Ruby finish would age...
Again, though, I consider aging a blessing. I've seen some Mapleglos that have "yellowed" that look absolutely fantastic. My SG has a natural brown finish that has darkened in the seven years I have owned it; very nice.

Wouldn't mind if it was genuine aging, but shifting tint after 6-7 years? That's an unstable finish, though I love the surf green...

Well, you have to keep in mind what happened in those 6-7 years. It could be anything from the environment to any chemical you used to shine it.

CV reacts with different things; one friend's blue boy yellowed just where he rested his hand on the bass' body.
I think it was just the CV yellowing; the new UV clear coat does not yellow.
