Hi, everyone:

May I begin by stating that I mean NO disrespect whatsoever!! I merely would like an explanation.

I am thinking of buying a new Ric 360. I absolutely love the color Amber Fireglo and would like to order it in THAT color. I called Rickenbacker today and the sales rep politely told me that it could NOT be done.

I know that it was "Color of the Year" in 2008 and all that. But, there ARE guitar companies that let customers special order guitars. So, why can't Rickenbacker do the same?

Mr. Hall, if you are reading this, I would love to know why the policy is such!!!!

Thank you :D

Pretty simple, really. We're working at full capacity- orders exceed our capability to produce- and making special order goods that would create further delays makes no business sense whatsoever.

wasn't "Amber-ing" originally just the natural by product of the aging of the clear-coat on Fireglo? And ....is there a safe way to accelerate this wonderful phenomenon? I happen to love the look of aged Fireglo and sure wouldn't mind if my 4003 were to yellow a bit.

The clear coat wasn't "aged" it was simply an amber-tinted clear coat applied over Fireglo.

Just let it sit in a sunny room for 30 years and it'll become a nice honey color.

I would imagine that this is what you mean. I picked this 1980 360/12 in February. The difference in colour between this and my 2011 360/6 is amazing.
