Hi guys,
I've just acquired a 60's Rickenbacker but am having difficulty in finding out the exact model and other details. Info I have is this:
Jack serial number is DC330 dating the guitar to March 1964.
It has 21 frets.
It has three Toaster Pickups, an F' hole, 5 knob and one switch and the old style sharp edging and older style non 'R' vibrato - the arm is missing though I can't see where/how it would fix on so not sure if this is a vibrato model?
Other confusion is weather it's a Rose Morris or an import? I'm guessing it's a 345?
One other confusion is on the jack number it reads DC330? Is this likely to be a 330 jack used on a 345 or is this serial number irrelevant to the guitar model?
I am trying attach some pictures but they're not uploading so I'll try again later. Any help would be really appreciated.
Cheers,
KB.

Ah I'll have a look....so the 330 after the 'DC' is just a coincidence? I've been online most of the day sussing more out and it sounds like its a Rose Morris 1998' model or 345 of which only two were made in 1964 which is pretty crazy...

You hadn't achieved the requisite 3 approved posts before being granted full board permissions. But you have now . . .
The serial number is completely a coincidence. Also, I'm not sure where you got the "only two made in 1945" info as that's never been published. If it's from the Richard Smith book, search the forum for more about that.

Yes I found a chart written by R.Smith on this link - http://home.provide.net/~cfh/rick.htmlYou'll need to scroll right to the bottom but it does state only 2 345's were made in 1964, 9 in 1965 and 128 in 1966..obviously more of other models were made in that year though not a great deal but yes, any other info I can find on the production of this model would be appreciated... I'm presuming the Americans named it 345 and the non export models were called 1998's?

Smith's production figures are notoriously inaccurate...

See here.. http://www.rickenbacker.com/catalog_boo ... talog=64RMIt is the other way around. The American designation is a 345 S. The "s" being short for "Special" as in an f-hole variant of a standard cat slash sound hole. The Rose Morris Company which imported Rickenbackers into the UK came up with their own model numbers as detailed in the catalog linked to above. So whether you have a 345s or a 1998 depends on where you are. In in UK or Australia then it is more likely a 1998. If you are in the States then it is more likely a 345s. Please send us a link to some images for a better answer
