I have posted my refinishing woes in another place in this forum, but I have a more general question. Will I diminish the value of my guitar by refinishing it. Its not vintage (2008) but since I have always considered a Rickenbacker to be both an instrument, and an investment, will I be putting more money into a guitar that is worth less than the amount that I am putting in. I would appreciate any thoughts on this issue.
For what its worth, the refinishers I've spoken to (un verified at this point) are talking $12-!500 to refinish my (2008) 660/12
thanks in advance

All guitars lose value for me if refinished. If it is a player guitar YMMV.

I decided to get my guitar refinished. It's pretty much unplayable in the condition it's in now, so it's a no-brainier for me!

How does the finish affect the playability?

All changes from the original droppes the value of an instrument. To keep it up, it has tp be 100% and no less. It can be worn but not altered or completely changed. If you do that, you will have to sell it as an ordinary second hand guitar. Maybe you´ll get a bit more cos it´s a Rickenbacker, but not much. I don´t know if RIC would do it for you, it could help to keep the value up to some extent, but if you let a luthier do the job, it´s not 100% Rickenbacker anymore. Even if the luthier is great and wellknown.
