Several years ago, when the Dead Horse GIF was first posted, I took a copy and added it to something I sent. My recipient was not amused, but I kept the copy because it still made
me laugh. The minimalist animation suits it perfectly.
A few weeks ago I entered a competition that required me to write a few arresting words. I thought the subject lent itself to the Dead Horse concept, and I appended the DH GIF to my entry, then forgot about it.
Last week I was notified that my entry was considered good enough to appear on the promoter's website. Although I'm as sure as I can be that the full GIF went to them, something in the publication process meant that only one frame of the animation was displayed (I checked in four browsers). Shame, but that's technology for you: people can't always handle it.
This week I was informed that I have won the rather enviable competition prize. Now I'm sure that, while my words are clearly super, top-notch, and wholly suited to the brief, they could easily have been overlooked without that perfectly appropriate GIF. So I suppose I ought to share some credit, if not the prize. Do tell, Webmaster, if you know: who found that pic and put the frames together? And do they like gin?
