I just bought a 620 and I think there may be a problem with the straplock on the tailpiece side. The straplock works fine on the neck side of the guitar, but on the tailpiece side, the straplock just seems to get jammed on (when you try to rotate it, it starts rotating the button). Am I doing something wrong or is it possible that the button is too wide?

Maybe the pin in the lock (part that goes on the strap) is not pulling out far enough?

It happens to both locks - they work fine on the neck, but get jammed on the tailpiece. They are just standard Schallers, right?

I've seen more than a few of these where the knob (the portion that stays on the guitar) is just a little too fat for the channel (the part that is affixed to the strap).
Turn your strap "upside down" and try putting it on the guitar. If the problem stays at the tail, it's the knob, or the mounting screw might be a little loose.
The only real solution is to replace the set. At least they are widely available in music stores, and you can usually ask the clerk to make sure the ones you are buying work properly before leaving the store.

I had this happen a few years ago on my 620-12. Occasionally you get a strap bolt that is machined out of spec and is too big. Get a new one from the boutique or a dealer ,and replace the bad one. They unscrew out of the body.

Call RIC customer service and they'll send you a new strap bolt. Schaller did make some of these out of tolerance; we now check them all with a strap lock and have had no problems since we brought this to their attention.

Hi,
At the weekend I bought a new 330/6 and got some Schallers through the post today. Unfortunately I have the same problem: both the shafts/locking parts fit fine on the strap bolt at the tailpiece of the guitar, but neither of them can be fixed to the bolt on the horn near the neck; the bolt is obviously too big. So it looks like I have one of these badly-machined examples.
My problem is, the dealer doesn't have any of these, and I can't seem to locate any anywhere as replacements - I live in the UK. Would RIC customer service still be able to deal with the problem? Also - and I may be a little dim here - if I did have a replacement, I can't quite see how to get the existing strap bolt off: it doesn't seem to want to be screwed off, and in fact I can see any grip for doing so and don't want to damage the guitar by trying too hard.
Any ideas? It may seem like a small thing, but when the effect is that I can't attach a strap securely to a £1500 guitar because of a manufacturing defect (albeit by Schaller rather than Rickenbacker), it's a bit of a problem in practice to say the least.
Thanks for any advice you can give.

Best place to get a replacement strap bolt here in the UK is Rosetti, just give Shelley Cleave a call she'll see you right Place a piece of cloth over the strap bolt and grip it with a pair of pliers and it should start to unscrew

OK, cheers. Funnily enough, I just found that site today and was going to order one, but I was waiting for the dealer I bought the guitar off to get back to me (he hasn't). I'm still a bit unsure about doing that to a brand new guitar, so I think I'll give him a ring tomorrow and see if he's prepared to fit it seeing as I just bought the guitar from him last week. (Yes, I know I'm being a bit of a wuss, but it's an expensive guitar and I don't want to ruin it with my customary ham-fistedness.)
Thanks for getting back to me.
