Is there a way to make a toaster RWRP? I don't see an exposed magnet on the bottom, only the protruding pole pieces. |

Those "polepieces" are the cylindrical magnets. You'd have to remove those. Good luck! |

It's possible to take out and flip the magnets, but when I tried it proved very hard. So I just had Lindy Fralin change the polarity with a machine for $20. |

It's a 7.4K scatterwound, has 6 pole pieces. Before I plunk down any more moola altering it, is there any reason this shouldn't work on my bass? |

Reason RWRP shouldn't work? None really... RWRP is a very simple idea that is easy to execute. The only issue I foresee is the hum canceling won't be as good with two pickups with mismatched resistances... the amplitude of the RF is going to be a bit different between the two so the summed result may not be as quiet as two Hi-Gains although it will still be a lot better than a lone single coil. It would be a heck of a lot more practical to mod a Hi-Gain bridge pickup yourself than to pay someone to take care of a Toaster for you though. I only did it because my 4001FL has three Toasters. I posted a thread on the Basses forum that is a tutorial of modding the stock bridge pickup of a 4003. In case you don't already know this RWRP can't be made to work with Ric-O-Sound (the signals don't mix, hence no RF canceling) or with the "Vintage Tone" engaged by way of the 0.0047 uF cap (because of the phase change the cap causes to the bridge pickup signal). |
