Hi all

Just a quick question regarding tailpieces...

I've got my eye on a 660/12 and I know it's a trivial thing but I really don't like the look of the trapeze tailpiece it comes with.

I've seen photos on the Ric site (see 600 series gallery) of 660/12 with an 'R' tailpiece and it looks fantastic. My 330/6 has a 'R' tailpiece so I suppose I'm just used to the site of one.

Anyway, is it possible to exchange/swap/modify a trapeze tail for a 'R' tail on a 660? The bracket hinge and screws look different so I expect there would be some cosmetic patch up involved.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

In a word, no. They have different mounting brackets.

Sorry... maybe I wasn't clear.

I realise the mounting brackets are different between the R and trapeze tailpiece.

Are the mounting brackets (and therefore the tailpieces) interchangeable? The brackets look as if they have different screw spacings and screw diameters so it doesn't look promising.

Sure, you can swap the trapeze for an 'R' tailpiece on a 660/12. Getting the 12 string 'R' tailpiece is going to be your main problem. RIC doesn't sell them as an aftermarket accessory. So buying one second hand would be your only option. That could get expensive and it might be fake.

Again, in a word, no. But you might find something here so you don't have to plug existing holes and drill new holes:

Personally, I think the Trapeze tailpiece is part of what makes the 660 so cool and unique, but it's your guitar.

The Trapeze is a lot easier to string-up, too.

I had to resort to the third party link that iiipopes posted since I have been unable to source the "R" tailpiece for my 360/12. I also had to settle for the trapeze look (not my choice, but at least I was able to finally string it up). The third party has a 12 string tailpiece that looks interesting but they do not have the rich look of the cast "R". I went with the long trapeze from their seconds area to save some money, since I plan to replace it as soon as I get my hands on a proper "R" tailpiece. A friend was kind enough to give me the anchor for the trapeze. I drilled two holes in the plate to match the mounting holes for the "R" type anchor so that I would not have to poke more holes in my 360's body. Lesser of two evils, since it will ultimately wind up in my parts drawer.
