I just got a 381V1269 and decided to us it as a 6 string. It is no problem, just string it up that way and if the truss rod needs an adjustment every guitarist should know how to do that anyway. I even pulled the second set of tuners off. It is no big deal to use it that way. Some people even use them as a 9 string or an 8 string...

Were there any problems with the strings being slightly 'off centre'? Does it still feel natural to play or does the closer proximity of the string to the edge of the fretboard on one side (and further away on the other) affect it at all? I've seen quite a nice 360GH/12...

I looked at the nut and the string spacing with 6 is not perfect and you would have to replace the nut (less than $100) if you want it set up that way. I did not find any problem playing the 6 strings with the 12 string nut. Your results may differ, but it was not even noticeable to me.

Cheers. I suppose its all an academic point now as I got myself a 330/6 yesterday, and will maybe get a /12 some point in the future. Thanks to everyone who gave me pointers.

I thought I would add my two cents in, I would definatley get a Rickenbacker 6 string then get a twelve later if you can afford it. I think changing the nut out and the bridge on the twelve just to make it 6 string in my opinion is butchering the guitar and you would regret it later, just get the six string first and get the twelve later and believe me you'll be much more happier especially that you would have a 6 and a 12 string Rickenbacker.
Got to support those Rickenbacker employee's famlies now.
Good luck!!!
