I have a 1997 Rose Morris Reissue with two low output toasters (in the 6k ohm range). I think the bridge can be a little too quiet and thin sounding, so I'm considering installing a Hi-Gain. I know that I'd like to convert it to a toaster top. My question is: if I want to convert the adjustable poles to alnico rods, is there enough bobbin to enlarge the holes to .250" and not damage the coil? If I recall correctly, the poles on the bridge position Hi-Gain have a wider spacing than the neck position... That being the case, would a neck position Hi-Gain be a better candidate? Thanks for any help guys!

I have never been a fan of converting high gains to toaster tops. It is difficult, the pole pieces can break, any number of other things can go wrong with the pickups.

If you're sure that your toasters only measure out in the 6-kohm range (with a hot lead unsoldered from the harness -- trying to measure them at the jack will cause the readings to be lower than they actually are), I would instead consider, if you must change pickups, a new "reissue" toaster, which has about 7.4-kohms' worth of wire on it. This should give you more body of tone.

Then if you really want more oomph than that, at the expense of a little top end, you can search for a 12-kohm toaster.
