I have a 650D and want to put on a new nut. I want to keep it as close to factory specs as possible. Does anyone know what the slot depths are on their Rickenbackers, from the top of the first fret to the bottom of the string? I am using feeler gauges as a tool. Please Help!!
Loved my 650D & 660/12 while I had them, but difficult to find official specs.
Assuming the neck is straight: put a capo on the first fret and be sure you are happy with the action & sound: no buzzing from frets or bridge.
With capo on the first fret, then measure with your feeler gauges on the THIRD fret, you will get a good value to start from in terms of adjusting nut depth at the first fret. It will leave you with a little wiggle room to lower the action a touch more if you want.
Too high a nut adjustment and you will be pulling the first few frets too sharp when you finger there.
