Have any of you users of Rotosound RS66LC strings (their light gauge: 0.040/0.060/0.075/0.095) on your 4003 basses had trouble fitting the D string through the nut? It's 0.060" diameter and the nut is cut to that width, nominally, as well, so it should fit. I tried fitting a lone 0.060" string and it really jammed. I suspect the problem has to do with fabrication tolerances that all manufactured parts have. So did anyone fit it straightaway, or did you file your nut?

.005 is not that big of a deal. Just have the nut slightly widened by a qualified luthier for the .060 Rotosound string. The difference is so small, it will not affect going back to the RIC OEM .055 D string later if you so desire.

I use D´Addario EXL 190, 40-60-80-100 and don´t have any probs at all fitting in the nut. Also check with Ric, I think they fit 0,45´s on new basses which means the D groove should be slightly wider.

Same Roto set I use on two of my four 4001's. (My CS and my '75) no problem at all. I can see no reason not to very lightly widen the slot side to side, but not deeper.

Thanks, folks. It seems tolerances will permit some to go straightaway and some to file a bit.
