There is no specific measurement. Normally it's set as close to the strings, short of buzzing, to maximize output. But there's plenty of other reasons to vary this for personal preference, including string balance. Your style and string preference will greatly figure into this.
But the general advice is- as close as possible, such that it does the job for you.
