Ok. I loosened the middle screw on each end of the middle pickup and nothing is moving. The screws are only moving out from the pickup/body. HOW do I raise the height of the pickups? Thanks...

All 6 grommets under the pickup are compressed. I don't want to force anything. And, if eventually one can raise the pickup, will the 4 grommets on the 4 corners of the pickup fall away?

Yes the grommets will fall off, there really isn't any adjustment as such.
If you want to stay period correct just fit extra grommets, I'm guessing 3 on each corner will be to high but you could always use half a grommet.

If you want full adjustability then the foam pads are the way to go!

Thanks for the response! So, can I pull up on the pickup after the 2 screws are backed out somewhat, without breaking something, etc., to raise it? I found foam surrounds. It would be interesting to hear what the toasters sound like closer to the strings. Thanks again! (The RIC manual does 'mention' pickup adjustment.)

Forgot to mention that black foam will blacken the finish. Also, how do you stack the grommets on the 4 corners? Glue them together?

Also learned that the finish under the grommets may be stuck to them and may peel if the grommets are lifted, especially if they have been very compressed for the decades. Hmmm... This all sounds not worth the trouble. Would have been nice to get the toasters a bit closer than the slightly less than 1/4" that they are from the strings. This less than 1/4" is after a correct setup...
