Hi, I installed a new nut on my 1989 340/6, got the first fret action nice and low without buzzing. Guitar feels great to play, neck straight, action super low all the way up to the 24th fret, no buzz.......however..... my first three frets are sharp esp on E and A string, I can't see how the nut can get lower.

any ideas? thanks

Are the nut slots the proper width so the strings don't bind, and do the slots have the proper "witness points" on the fret side of the nut and sloping smoothly ever so slightly down and right to the tuners? When installing a new nut, it is very easy to "rock" the nut files, resulting in a hump in the slot that causes the witness point to be too far back, which means the frets, relatively speaking, are now too far forward, and intonation goes sharp.

That, and check your nut slot height again, compared to the old nut.

Fret/capo at the 3rd fret, and measure/eyeball how high the strings are above the 1st fret. It sounds like they are too high, and nut slots need to be deepened (or widened enough so the string hits the bottom).
