I'm not sure if this is the right forum but what the heck....

Are the pickguards on 4003's the same as the later one inch spacing guards on 4001 basses? Or should I ask ....would a new 4003 pickguard fit a late model 4001?

I was also wondering how well a new 4003 pickguard from RIC would fit a '75 4001.

In a word, they won't. Oh, that's two words.

They're quite different animals.

This forum is a wonderful thing. Jay from customer service sent me an e-mail about 4001 guards. As it is I had just replaced mine with one from Mike Parks but when I saw that the current 4003 guards were now available on the new site I was curious to know if they would fit the older ones.

This forum is indeed a wonderful thing

thank you

Tony D. at www.pickguardian.com makes both style guards. They are very high quality.

+1 for Tony Dudzik. He made me a black guard for my white '73 (1/2-inch). Very accurate and the holes were perfect fit. Don Adamek makes excellent replica guards too. That's for when you need pickguards that RIC don't make anymore. For a newer 4003 I'd go with the RIC product of course.
