Hi everybody --

I just got my first Ric - a stunning midnight blue 360/6. I can feel grooves along the length of the back of the neck. Is this normal or are the truss rods pushing out?

The neck is straight as can be, intonation is good (not perfect) and there's no buzzing anywhere. Just the grooves.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

The necks are made from three pieces of wood. You may be feeling the seam where they were glued together.

I agree; I don't see how you could feel the rods as they're under tension pulling into the neck, not pushing out.

Especially if you have one of the newer skunk stripe necks, the difference in the expansion/contraction of the various pieces of wood can be felt.

That's just what I wanted to hear. I only got concerned because it felt a little bit like a Fender I had where the truss rod was pushing the skunk stripe out.

Mr. Hall -- thanks for your reply. I'm sure that's exactly what I'm feeling, and I'm glad there's nothing structurally wrong, because I love everything about the guitar!

Thanks again!
