Has anyone tried these strings? And, if so, what makes them so special to RICs?

Don't know why they may be special on RICs; however, have used them exclusively on my Taylors and love them to death. The have a fuller, more articulate sound, but best of all, they last a whole lot longer, especially if you wipe them down after each use.

I have them on all of my acoustics and they are Fab!You have to buy them on line or at a local music store...because with so many Great Products like Rickenbacker, Guitar Center does not carry them. My Daughters boyfriend went there to buy some and they say "They don't make them anymore" I would rather go to a Mom and Pop store to spend my coins like back in days of olde! MH

I don't know why they're special for Ricks, either. They make claim to have put together a set like RIC recommends, but their gauges are way off. The G string in the Elixir set is much heavier than the G RIC recommends.

I still use Rickenbacker strings on my Rick 12's but Elixir Polywebs on everything else, and have since they came out. These last at least 3X what other strings do and I really like the tone. I will probably try Nanowebs soon, but I'm not in a big hurry to change anything.

slightly off topic but...

i have a love/hate relationship w/ elixers (on any guitar). when i love 'em i feel like they're smooth as silk. when i hate 'em i feel like they're all chemical slippery.

I've never used anything except D'Addarios on my Rickenbacker electrics. I don't use anything other than Elixers on my acoustics (these are non-RIC).

Excuse me, but doesn't that Elixir ad say they're specific for a Rick accoustic?

If I'm interpreting the ad correctly, what it says is that they (Strings and Beyond) have pieced together this set to match the gauge of the Rickenbacker factory set for 6 string acoustic guitars. They don't claim that the string formulation is specifically designed for Rickenbackers.

Further evidence can be found at Elixer's website, where there is no mention of a custom Rickenbacker set nor is there even a standard set with the same string gauges.

Does RIC actually make their own strings? this would be quite uncommon, usually a major string company such as Ernie Ball, D'addario, Elixir, etc,, makes them to the guitar manufacturers specs.
