Quote: xpitt, My sincere condolescenes of the recent passing you mom-in- law on Xmas day.
-So you and I one huge thing in common (in addition to us having "Ric fever)
My mom mother also just passed away this past 2008 Xmas Day and I'm not having an easy time with the grief process.
My mom was thrilled every time my Rics came out of the cases. I let her hold them and she always told me, "They are SO beautiful!) davclr, that is touching me hearing that your mom passed the same day; as I'm together with my wife since 1977 my mom in law was like a real mother to me - she was just great, working in her shop 'til one week before she went. I can feel with you. Stay safe buddy and enjoy your Ricks - life is very short and there's no time for fussing and fighting my friend ...

Quote: .... To expose his magic guitar on a stand with nobody else playing a Rick was the upmost honour and respect given to him and this brand!... Hey Alex, are you serious? It's just a musical instrument man, when one of the best on the planet but it's not magical in any way. There are no elves on the production line at RIC, just able workers doing their job excellently producing a fine quality instrument. During George's whole musical lifetime he played Ricks for about 10 minutes. A very productive 10 minutes! It was great what he did but he didn't invent the guitar, design or build it. No one else playing a Rickenbacker during this concert out of "honour and respect" is hogwash! Like doing a Jimi Hendrix benefit and no one playing a Strat! Strats would be played by most everybody performing BECAUSE that certain guitar was most associated with Jimi! That said, where were you recently?

The instrument sat on the stage by itself as people entered the event, with just a spotlight on it. As such it was the icon for George and as such was accorded the greatest honor of the evening among all instruments present. It was a strong symbol, a silent guitar ritual or missing pilot flyby if you will. Dhani Harrison told me he set that up specially.

Thanks John for that info ! I thought that this was going in that direction, as George himself seemed to be that spiritually .

I liked the concert. Doesn't matter if they were playing Rics or not (although if Tom Petty used his '65 360/12MG on "I Need You" and "Handle With Care", that would have been OK).
Andy Fairweather-Low (originally a session musician in the late '70s, notable for his work on the "Who Are You" LP by The Who, played then (and still today, I think) with Eric Clapton) played the Fender Electric XII on "If I Needed Someone".
