Gerry Beckley of America plays a Rickenbacker. Check out his photo by going to the Gallery tab, then 1980s and click on Artists. Rickenbackers are "Here and Now."

Yeah, actually it is Beckley who is indirectly responsible for my getting turned on to Rics. I saw him use a 360/12 this past August at the Ohio State Fair and I was intrigued by the sound and appearance. It jogged my memory of Beckley's former bandmate Dan Peek, writing (in his autobiography) about using a Ric on their second LP "Homecoming" in 1973. Peek was thrilled to play the legendary Ric 12, loaned to the group for the recording.
Anyway, I began researching Ric 12's (played acoustic 12's most of my life), I found this forum, and now I am telling my musician friends, "Where has this guitar been all my life?!"

I really enjoyed their Soundstage performace. Try and catch that if you can.
I saw it on the Dish Network concerts HDTV channel some weeks ago. A Ric does come out for the last number as well.

I've seen it...good show. Although America have used Ric 12's in the studio for many years, they seem to use one in their live shows only for the ever-present encore: Horse With No Name. Beckely uses a 360/12 for the major 7th backbeat accent chords and for the "waterfall" solo. The haunting sounds of a Ric 12 are perfect for some of their stuff, I wish they would use one in the live show more often.

America is on the road and they've just released more concert dates for this fall including Agoura Hills, CA on November 15th plus they have dates scheduled in the U.S.A. in 2009 including Cedar Rapids, IA on June 20th. http://www.venturahighway.com

America will celebrate their 40th Anniversary with a U.S. concert tour scheduled to start in February of 2011.

Hmm. I hate it when old bands get back together after a long absence and make albums again. America was such a cool band in the seventies, though.
Never quite understood why we'd make a fuss over the lead singer using a Ric, though. I found America's music more inclined towards acoustic, with electric lead guitar.
