Which guitar is pictured on the cover of Tom Petty's "Damn the Torpedos" album?

Thanks,

Don't trust me on this because I'm usually wrong, but it appears to be a Fireglo 660.

It is a 660-12. Possibly the guitar they modeled the Tom Petty model after. I also notice that the strings are loaded from the bottom of the trapeze contrary to what this forum has recommended.

I went to see him on that tour when I was about 15 at Wolftrap in DC. Great show.

The 660 was invented as the Tom Petty model in the early 90's. AFAIK, that guitar is Mike Campbell's 620/12, and the third Rickenbacker 12-string ever made.

I said it was a 660 because it does not have the "R" tail piece, did the 620 come with a plain tail piece in the past.

also what does "AFAIK" mean?

Officially it was called a 625/12. It's a 1964 model and one serial number away from George Harrison's 360/12.

beathotel, You're correct that it's a 625/12, but it's a modified 625/12.
