It seems Rics aren't completely off their list:

I've always been a big fan of The Smithereens. That burgundy 330 in the photo above has been a main staple of Jim Babjak's sound throughout their career. (That same guitar first appeared in their "Blood and Roses" video in 1986.) He played a cool 360 tuxedo in the "Green Thoughts" and "11" album era, and the 660/12 was featured quite a bit on the "Blow Up" album (think "Too Much Passion" and "Now And Then"). Most recently, on their "2011" album, you can hear that 330 again on "All The Same".

That poster they made with Rickenbacker showcased some wonderful instruments, as well (including Mike Mesaros' Blackstar bass).

They're all such good musicians, and DiNizio and Babjak write great, melodic songs. I'm glad they do what they do.

I can't recall which CD it's on, but The Smithereens do a really good cover of "The Seeker".[/quote]

I think their cover of "The Seeker" is on the "Attack of the Smithereens" CD.

Also, a few years ago they did their own version of "Tommy," which is really fun to listen to. I can understand the point of view of some who prefer the original versions, but I think their covers of the Beatles and the Who are done as much in the spirit of fun as anything. Great to hear a really good band (that plays a lot of Rickenbackers!) have a good time recording versions of the music they love. And if you haven't heard their most recent album of originals, "2011," which was produced by Don Dixon, you're really in for a treat!
