Since I've completed my pick odyssey by discovering the Dunlop 2mm plectrum, my new journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step towards the world of guitar strings. I've always used Gibson Vintage 10's but am considering GHS flatwounds, or maybe Rickenbacker...what do you find works best on a Rick? Looking for power and volume and yet comfort as well. And something that will impress the ladies.

Always used stock Ric strings until recently. I bought a used 660/12 last year that had TI flats on it, and now almost all my Ric's do too. A bit pricier, but well worth it (and the red silk windings at both ends should impress the ladies)

Standard Rickenbacker strings for my Rickenbacker 6-string guitars. They are perfect. The compressed roundwound strings allow the lowest action and most comfortable playability for the 330/360/620/650, while the 012-054 pure nickel roundwound strings are perfect for the 320/325. Many people use 013 flatwounds on the 325, because they have read that John Lennon used them, but the roundwounds sound better - to my ears at least.

By the way I use d´Addario Pure Nickel 010 roundwound strings on my Strat and Thomastik Infeld 012 flatwound strings on my Godin 5th Avenue.

TI Jazz Rounds and Jazz Flats on the basses, D'Addario Chromes on the 330.

TI 0.10 flatwounds by Pick of the Ricks on my 360/12, and TI 0.11 roundwounds on my 381V69 and on my Telecaster. These strings sound great and they seem to last forever.

Dean Markley Regular on ALL my 6-sting electrics.(RIC strings too expensive here in Germany, cost 4 times that of D.M. strings!)
Egyptian flats on my Rick 12-string. (Infeld too hard to find and pay for!) Where do you get yours doctorno?
D'Addario on all my acoustics.

Usually D'Addario or Dean Markley on my 6-strings, RIC strings on my 660 12-string, DRs on my 4003, and D'Addario on my acoustics, but recently I have decided to try DRs on my 6-strings as well. So far I really like them (Rare) on my acoustics, but not so sure about them (Tite-Fit) on the electrics, they seem a little 'scratchy' sounding... but they are still very new.

The big problem with the DRs is that they don't do a set of 11s with a wound 3rd (which I think all Rickenbackers soud better with) so I've had to substitute a spare from another maker, but I don't think that's the problem.

A few years ago I got some great strings online called 'Snake Oil Brand' (really!) they were fantastic-sounding (very 'played in' from the start, and consistent-sounding) and lasted nearly forever, but out of sheer laziness I've not re-ordered because it's easier to just get the others from the shop I work for - but if the DRs don't work out I will maybe go back and give them another try. Or maybe go up to 12s and try the RICs...

I use Ernie Ball regular slinky on all of my six strings, and D'Addarios on my 330/12. Rotosounds on my 4003.

GHS and D'addario rounds and TI flats. Obviously not all at the same time on the same guitar.....

After experimenting with various brands I found that the Rickenbacker strings for the 6 & 12 sounded best to me. They feel really great!
