One of the details I love about Rickenbacker is the blue lining of Ric hardcases. In fact, I don't think I've seen a Ric HC without that blue interior. For how long has blue been the colour of the case lining?

I've seen red, black, a purplish color, orange, and I've got a 1984 that has a brown color lining...

Craig Yes especially Midnite blue,,,or in Aus speak Midnight blue on a Ric Then you can put it in the matching case vintage case An Orange would look good with a FG AG as in the photo, it would really clash with a MID Ric jbud

They've been blue for a long time now but they were red for many years as well. Along the way there's been just about every color, dependent upon the case supplier at the time and the availability of lining material.
My favorite ones were a royal purple color but it was the texture that was most appealing; instead of the whorehouse plush finish, it was smooth like velour. I don't know the story of the color but we used to have some guitar cases converted into tool kits for travel to trade shows that had the last of that fabric and they were just gorgeous.

I trust you don't speak from firsthand knowledge? (Just joking, no offense meant!)

Believe it or not, that's the actual term the case and fabric makers use to describe this material. Seems it's used to describe some furniture upholstery as well.

I have two with black lining (`84 and `89). The rest are blue.
