You're much younger than I realized as well. Keep at it. I enjoyed your playing. You'll get your Rick. Just be patient. I waited a long time before I got my first Rick. I started wanting one at about your age, didn't get one until I was 21.
Yes I too was surprised when I became aware of lassiebacker age, he has had 2 Birthdays since being a forum member, his tune has not changed since first joining he has always wanted a Rickenbacker, badly! He is a music student and takes lessons, and like you I told him it is best to to be patient. I believed that after a few more years he would be able to utilize the Rickenbacker, and thought he should first spend more time and Money on cultivating his guitar playing and studies . However Lasiebacker played piano for about 5 years and now has been playing guitars for two, so all up he has dedicated at least 7 years to music, yes his chronological age is young but he does have some musical maturity!
He is all over the Beatles like a rash ( in a very good way)! He plays many of their songs, he does a great job of it too, he sings and that is done well. I have encouraged him to take singing lessons as well as to keep going with all other music lessons. Normally I would advise a student to just wait, but Lassiebacker is so dedicated to music and the Beatles, and does practice a lot, then perhaps he is a really good candidate for a Rickenbacker even at his current age, he will grow into it fast I think. He is going to be Lucky to get this guitar, but he worked a bit to save
and his current abilities and potential do give this purchase justification!
Rickenbrother, I started at age 7 but it was not until age 21 that I got a quality instrument, My parents spent money on lessons but not expensive instruments, there was much wisdom in that. I only got a Ric about 3 years ago that was a 4 decade wait! Lassiebackers wait will be short lived, he's very lucky
