I recently acquired a Rickenbacker 430/6 from 1975. The store which sold it to me claimed it was featured in the 75 NAMM show. The guitar sounds and plays wonderfully. My question is the body material, the guitar is made from a brilliant looking birdseye maple. I have seen other 430s with maple before but never birdseye. I've looked all over the internet and this seems to be the only one (the only pictures I found of any others with birds eye turned out to actually be this very guitars previous owner). The serial dates to Aug 75. Could this be a one off or a prototype? http://imgur.com/a/ICwO3

I don't think it's that uncommon, although yours has some particularly pretty woodgrain. The one in my collection here has highly figured wood. I would say it was pretty much luck of the draw as far as which piece if Maple was used.

Thanks that makes sense now. I know that all rics have small variations from guitar to guitar, so this makes sense.

Just wondering. I think I got a very good deal on this guitar but I was just wondering how much this guitar is worth? I think the store that sold it to me had no idea what they had.

Moldyjuice --- re your questions about if you got a good price on this 430 model, you might want to look over on the RicResource Forum (RRF) and they have an appraisals thread and they also have the Rickenbacker Register pages where many Ric owners have posted the info about their specific models and some listings also indicate e-bay advertised pricing, as a guideline for establishing a Ric's value. of course the e-bay postings are not necessarily going to be accurate of actual private-transaction dollars sales, but at least it might give you some ball park ideas of listed prices on some other similar Rickenbacker models. Hope it is helpful. The RRF Appraisals thread is part of the Rickenbacker Marketplace section, and the RRF also have Wanted and For Sale sub-threads and you can check those threads for anyone having listed a similar model as yours and what the potential price obtained may be. http://www.rickresource.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=17http://www.rickresource.com/register/Regards
