I have an '89 610/12 as mentioned in the 'Subject'. Its silver body color looks to be headed toward "gold-top" over time! This is not especially troubling to me aside from possibly having done something wrong for this to develop.
So, I wonder how this happens and if anyone else has had this experience with this particular color.
Thanks!

Unfortunately, the clear coat yellows over time. It could be worse. Jetglo turns green.

Thanks, Badanovski.
At least I know it's a 'natural occurrance' !

This happens to most guitars, not just Ricks. In a fairly recent issue of Vintage Guitar, they kept talking about Don Rich's "gold sparkle Telecaster." Except it was silver when it was first made! So the lacquer coats usually do yellow with age.

I have seen a couple of other Silver Rickenbackers, where the clear coat finish has aged, as the others have indicated.

My 1981 360-12 OS WB ckbd started out Fireglo. Now, through aging and patina, it is now the much-sought-after Amber Fireglow. :D

In 1976 my 1976 4001 Jet Glo was a 1976 4001 Jet Glo. Today in 2018 my 1976 4001 jet Glo is a 1976 4001 Jet Glo. :o
And yes, I´ve played outdoors too. :o
Must be something wrong with the finish.

Micky, you are one of the fortunate ones whose JG did not turn greenish with the aging of the conversion varnish topcoat. Congratulations on your well-kept bass. :)

It´s not exactly that deep black the new ones have. The black is pretty faded and the white binding is more or less yellow. But it¨s not green, no.
I also have seen a 1974 and a 1977 that look more or less the same. Faded black and yellow binding, but still not green. If it has to do with the exposure to sunlight or not I don´t know. Mine has been exposed mostly to artificial light.
But at the same time, I´ve seen a White and two MGs that looked pretty yellow and FGs that look almost orange.
So if it has to do with the type of light, I don´t know. The factory has to explain that.
Anyway, Good Rockin tonite!!! :D :P
