Post subject:  620 with toasters?

I was wondering what my 620 would sound if I put a set of toasters on it.

Is the output really higher on high gains? I've read that the output isn't quite "high" on the modern high gain pups.

I have to cover a lot of ground as a guitarist, as we cover lots of bands and play our own hard rock stuff too. Maybe it would be better to stick to the high gains?

Any opinions/experiences are welcome!

Better stick with the high gains for diversity sake.

Yes the hi-gain output is higher than the toasters, I've heard they're wound close to double the amount than that of the toasters. But they both have the classic sound. In my personal opinion, I think the 6-strings are better suited for hi-gains, while the 12-strings better matched with toasters.

There was a time in the '70's and 80's that the hi-gain pickups (at least the ones they put in the neck) had more windings, as did the "hot toasters" of the period. But also, many guitars of the era had underwound bridge pickups for as bright a tone as possible.

I don't know how much wire is on current adjustable pole-piece high-gains, but from what I have heard, it can't be as much as some of those overwound neck pickups, because the clarity of tone is there on the current neck pickups.

I'm sure the current hi-gains have different specs than in the '70's, although still having a higher output with clear tone.
