Alas, I'm afraid our fearless leader has indicated that the 480 is about at the bottom of the list of guitars to reissue.
No, no, not at the bottom at all! But there's only about 500 models before it that deserve to be done first.

What about a reissue of the F body guitars ??? Mr Hall ?

They where the least amout of one body style that your company produced in the 60's

the early 60's models are beautifull guitars.

I would like to finish John's thought for him:

"...and at the top of the list are the 4002 and 4005 (since the they deserve to be done first, of course)."

;)

Regards,

Koose

Back to the 480, does anyone know of any for sale? I have been looking to buy one for along time but haven't found one. Please help!

Just out of curiosity and to put you on the spot, what would be the first model you would like to reissue ?

I'm not even a great fan of the 480/481 (I just think it looks odd, when I'm so used to the 300/600 series guitars and the 4000 series basses, sorry!) but I do think it may be becoming worthy of a reissue. It's a very distinctive guitar and is used by at least one well-known guitarist now (the guy in Kasabian, who I also don't like but that's beside the point) which must have raised demand for it.

If there was enough demand to reissue (even in very limited numbers) the 425 and 450 ten years ago, is there enough now to do the same for the 480 or 481?

I also agree that it's in some ways more 'futuristic' than the guitar models we have now - especially if it was the 481 (without slanted frets) with full-size humbuckers and phase switch. (You could even fit coil splits very easily without changing the appearance, if you used the tone-control-split method, or push-pulls.)

Would it be possible to have some sort of long-running poll here to monitor which discontinued models there would be demand for? I would guess that the forum contains a good number of the people who would be most likely to order one.

I would personally vote for: 481, 4005 and 460.

I haven't seen a 480 in 18 years (when I tried one out in 1990, in a music store in Minneapolis). Frankly, I wasn;t oo wild about the 480 I tried, but I guess I can see reissuing it if the demand's there. Personally, I'd like to see the 460, or 360F as a reissue.
