What is with the tone pots on my late model 360/6 and 360/12? They seem to change nothing until you turn them down into the 3 to 4 range (10 being full, 0 being minimum). The volume pots seem to make much more of a change from 10 to 0, but the tone pots do very little. Can anyone explain this to me?

Anyone have an idea. If I let this post get to page 2, I fear that I will never get an answer. Sooooooo, back it goes to the top of page 1, or so I hope. Not sure how this list works yet.

Daft thing but have you experimented with the blend control through it's entire sweep? Just muck around between the blend and tone controls, first using just the neck pickup then just the bridge pickup or vica versa. May be able to tell more accurately how much sweep IS on the tone pots then. I've always found that there is very little play with the tone controls on a ric, but The blend control can help to make a big difference to tone. Just a thought. You may have tried that already!

I thought the same thing until I bought a Roland JC120. Once I had an amplifier with near-endless clean headroom, I discovered the full range of tones on my Rics. My neck pickups had never been used alone til then. I could not believe how rich and corpulent the low end could be. When playing, I tend to switch pickups and fiddle with the controls and I've not nothing seems amiss with my Rics.
My Gretsch is a different story!

One other thing to consider is your cable. I've found a few cables which absolutely devour my tone. -and don't forget the blend knob.

Best of luck.

Are the pots stock? Could it be that you have the wrong type of pots in there (linear vs. log)?

Kevin,

The pots are stock. But what is the difference between linear and log?

By the way, how did you and I end up groupies and not roadies like some others. Did I sign up to be a groupie without knowning it?

Dan

My brain is a bit fuzzy right now (still working at nearly 11pm), so I'm not going to attempt the linear/log thing. I'll let someone who knows exactly what they're talking about explain things.

As to the Groupie/Roadie thing -- it's the amount of posts. You'll notice that you graduate to Roadie after you pass 10 posts. Interestingly, it seems that at exactly 10 posts you have no label at all. Or at least that's the way it was a few days ago. Our able webmaster is busily ironing out all the little inconsistencies on the site.

Testing, as this will be my 10th post to the board, and my last until morning...

If all it takes is 10 posts, then here is another one. Do we get to be a band member at 100?

And it's now been fixed by our fast-fingered friend, Webmaster Geoff!
