Hi there! I had luck in the past using this forum to identify an old Ric, so I thought I'd try again.

I have an old Ric that was custom made when Jerry Byrd had his 7-string steel guitar. It is an official Ric, but because of its custom origin I can't track down any others to determine its value (i want to sell it.)

Anyone out there know the model/style/background on this model? It has been passed down in the family from my step-grandfather, who used to play in a band and had it made copying Jerry Byrd's.

I've posted a slideshow online: http://www.paulapatrice.com/personal/guitar/index.html

thx for taking the time! =)

Hrm, how about "does anyone know of any model 7-string Rickenbacker?"

it isnt even an option in the drop-down menu on the site here. or maybe i should be trying to identify the 6-string version of it?

any info at all that'll give me some direction in my search would be helpful =)

thx!

My son is holding a Rickenbacher 7 string from the late 30s. It is solid Mahogany with an Ebony marker board. It has a single truss rod/stiffener bar, 7 pole HS pickup with 1 volume control. It is undergoing complete restoration. When I bought this for $5.00 at a junk/antique shop in Elsinor Calif. it had already been painted in white enamel with a brush..These solid wood instrumnts are quite rare. As for your maybe some more info would help others with your quest.

Here's a catalog description of a 7-string model from the 1930's.

thx for that link R&V! the Hawaiian 7-string looks very close, that is an excellent place for me to start researching!

guess i should be happy we're still the original owners and it isnt covered in paint - sounds like quite a restoration!

This is the easiest question I'll have today. That's a Model BD-7 guitar.

As noted above, it's shown here:

http://www.rickenbacker.com/catalog_pos ... cf36-4.jpg

The plates on the front of the guitar were offered at various times in both chrome and white, while other details differed slightly from year to year.

Most Rickenbacker steels were offered as seven stringers, whether it said in the catalog or not, with deference to Jerry Byrd.
