Hey everyone. I've played bass on and off for a while...just piddling when it comes right down to it. I just acquired a 1978 4001. I have an Ampeg setup: SVT Classic head with a SVT410HLF cabinet. I have played Modulus basses in the past (aside from the 2001 Cheyenne Ric that I had to sell for tuition purposes). I was wanting some advice on the settings for this particular setup. I play in a band that has two basses, one guitar and drums. I play "background bass" with lots of effects...ala Pink Floyd 'Saucerful of Secrets' era, etc. Just wanting any suggestion on strings and amp settings. Thanks for any and all replies. Love the forums...and love Rickenbacker!!!

Paul

hi. never been in a two bass player band before, sounds fun and i can dig some pink floyd. ive been at it for around 35 years and for me personaly, i like stainless steel round wounds couse they seem to hold thier biteness longer and have a nice bight to them. the only effect i own right now is an old mxr envelope filter, its a keeper. what effects do you use?

Flamedragon,
I also play my 4003s through an SVT CL and 410HLF. I keep most settings pretty flat and the volume knobs on the basses up all the way. BUT, I never use the Ultra Hi/Lo switches on the SVT...keep them off! They only muddle your sound. I use stock Ric strings on one bass, and Thomastik Infields on the other. For effects, I use a digital delay, but looking to add something to give almost infinite sustain...just not sure what effect that would be.

I'd love to have a 10 string Ric! That would be killer, especially through an SVT-CL.

You're in luck. We actually made some of these. Maybe you can find one on the used market.

Here's a picture to aid you in your search:

thanks. I'm actually saving up to get an 8 or 10 string...want to have that added harmonic in there. As far as effects go, I use a Morley boost/wah, Big Muff Pi, Bass Balls, Ibanez Delay/echo, and I also occasionally throw in a chorus, Mini Q-tron and a Boss Overdrive...just depends on the sound I'm wanting. As you can tell, I love Electro Harmonix. Thanks for all the advice. Keep it coming. I love getting info from other players...gives me more options to customize from! Keep em coming. I'm more than happy to give advice for those looking for some of the odder sounds that the bass can accomplish.
