Working on album production is hard, especially when all the basses you have are junk! So, I'm wondering how I'd go about getting my hands on a custom-designed 4004cii5 RIC bass, to record as well as take on the road with me.

After all, as much as I'd love to see rock clubs from New York to Rhode Island to Ohio, I'm sure it would all look so much nicer if I had a custom RIC in my arms to see it with! ;)

You can't buy a regular 4004cii5, let alone a "custom." And if you want a custom Ric, you either have to be someone the likes of Sir Paul or buy a regular Ric, strip it and customize it yourself.

First get a time machine to go back to when they actually did custom work... Then stand in line after the people who are waiting 15months+ for standard instruments.

What is it that you want special?

Aw darn! Are those particular model basses just not in production yet or something?

Well, my fantasy of a bass would be a 4004cii with a basic sunburst body, except instead of the sunburst colors, a sort of silver-burst color scheme. I'll work on the acquisition of that time machine though. ;)

I'm sure the 4004Cii/5 will be back in production soon enough.

You can always "customize" a Rick bass once you buy one...just don't perform any modifications that won't be reversible or the instrument will lose quite a bit of value. You will most likely void your warranty if you do any radical mods or maybe just any mods.

There's a handful of 4004cii 4-stringers around in Montezuma Brown Burst... that's probably the closest you'll get in the forseeable future.

Rickenbacker does not have a "custom shop" ... and yes there is a shortage of 5 string ric basses out the ... the 4003s5 has been discontinued for about 5 years and the 4004CII5 is being redesigned ... my solution is "DIY" do it yourself ... I took the bull by the horns and convereted my 4 string rics to 5 string Rics ... I even documented this on the internet ... www.3dentourage.com/425 ... having a Ric with 5 strings is about as cool as it gets ...

And my fantasy of a bass would be a Rickenbacker 4003, except with 24 frets (well, maybe only 21, actually) and done up all gothy. However, RICs are so good there's very few things I would want "customized."
