That's exactly right. In my opinion (and strictly my opinion! Anyone is welcome to disagree completely and I'm not saying anyone is wrong), a bass should sound like a bass. That's why I use flatwounds and dial up the lows. With great respect for Chris Squire, Geddy Lee, and others who prefer bright roundwound tone (who have awesome tone in their own right), if you want a trebly tone, play a piano.

But I don't like playing piano.
And my tone is trebly (more mid-heavy than anything), and it doesn't sound like a piano. Of course, pianos aren't usually overdriven...

Yeah, as far as classic bands go, I tend to like the bass tone (and playing) in The Who.
