I'm not an expert on identifying fakes, which is why I'm posting here to be sure. It seems authentic to me, but that's not enough to justify a $1200 purchase.

The serial number indicates it was built in late 1980.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I've been waiting to get one of these for as long as I can remember

I'm no expert, but it looks legit to me. The triangle inlays aren't too bright, the pickups, bridge, and hardware all look right. Try to get a pic of the jack plate.

Congrats!

The pictures are kind of small, not showing great detail, but I think that's a real 4001.
An Azureglo (discontinued blue finish) 4001 selling for $1200 would be a great deal to many. Especially in such nice condition.

Thanks for the help, I just asked for a picture of the jack plate so hopefully I'll be able to get it up here soon.

If there is anything specific I should check out in person please let me know.

That would be a correct date of manufucture for a model 4001.

Great bass at a great price. The knobs have been changed out, but that's no big issue.
