Okay this is kind of strange but, I was taking the bridge cover off of my bass, and in order to do that you gotta take the strings out and blah blah, well when i took the plate off, I noticed a wire pop up connected to a metal piece with a hole through it. i asked my friend what it was for and he looked at the bottom of the pickup, where there were two screws, one screw holding in the same kind of wire with metal piece on it andthe other with nothing in it, so he figured that you unscrew it and put the one wire through the screw and screw it in.
I think it made a big difference in the sound.
can anyone tell me what this is all about, it would be greatly appreciated.
was what he did correct? did the previous owner of my bass take it out for some reason?
thanks in advance

That is a ground wire that goes on one of the the pickup height adjustment screws, placed between the height adjustment spring and the pickup surround plate.

LOL...after you've taken apart and reassembled one as many time as I have, It gets easy!! Unless you've broken the wire, you haven't done any damage.

The way you did it, It would not ground the plate.
